and a million other moments in between.

so grateful.
so humbled.
so blessed.

at Gallery In The Attic...

Once upon a time there was a little red hen…

Last night was the inaugural show of The Little Red Hen Collective at the lovely new Gallery In The Attic.

It felt good to be there – warm room, city lights, big walls full of art, so much history, so much new – and a sweet privilege to be a part of the show.

The show runs until October 13th.
Wander over and check it out.
It’s worth the climb.

halfway.

august 4. the days fly by even though the heat makes my bones move like sludge. time passes too quickly.
i’m trying to hold on to the moments without clinging.
these days are good days.
there is so much to be grateful for.

Practice Resurrection

“So, friends, every day do something that won’t compute…Give your approval to all you cannot understand…Ask the questions that have no answers. Put your faith in two inches of humus that will build under the trees every thousand years…Laugh. Be joyful though you have considered all the facts….Practice resurrection.”
Wendell Berry, The Country of Marriage

Shadow Chaser

...

...

one warm sunday.

one camera in hand.

one long walk.

two inquisitive eyes.

i stopped looking at objects and started looking at light. the absence thereof. training my vision to notice the lines and the patterns…the black and white moving picture show. following the sun, i chased the shadows.

i love that after all this time, i’m still learning to see.

ways to make the cold nights warmer

Idea No 1.

remember a moment when the whole world felt alive

...

...

Idea No. 2.

listen to some music that helps settle you in your bones. when that song finishes,  listen to some more.

Idea No. 3.

find a story to take you somewhere.

“I was once telling stories to a group of seven-year-olds, and when the program was almost over one little boy hollered exultantly, “Never finish!” Perhaps this is the whispered, peek-a-boo truth of stories: life ends and stories, too; but stories end in their own good time and with as much “working around” as the teller can fashion, and even in the silence afterwards they are able to keep speaking to us. Stories let us hear the footsteps of our own transformation coming towards us on the pathway of everyday life. We learn from our stories how to dream, tell and remember beyond our own ending, and this may be as close as we can get to never finishing.”

– Dan Yashinsky, from Suddenly They Heard Footsteps

before the wind and rain.

purple beauty. teeny green.

purple beauty. teeny green.

before the wind and the rain, there was a beauty of an afternoon, where the sun shone golden and the breeze moved quiet and the water sat still. a fall picnic with a hodge podge crew…a sculpture forest full of smooth stone…a few hours full of everything simple and extraordinary.

golden.

summer, slipping.

it’s raining on my small roof. thunder is rolling in. bruce, the sweet old dog, is dreaming on the kitchen floor.

i’m flicking through photos on my camera, remembering moments from not-that-long-ago that i’ve already almost forgotten. my days feel extra slippery lately.

i bring a sweater now when i step out the door in the morning. i watch the leaves drop as i come over the hill and into the valley.

in so many ways,  a  change of seasons.

i’m trying to relax my grip and let them come and go.

barefeet in summer grass.
